International Meeting of Experts
Workshops: Brief Interventions/consumption of alcohol and other psychoactive substances

Within the scope of its international expansion, the project Prevention of use/abuse of alcohol and other psychoactive substances: interventions in contexts throughout the life cycle, registered in the Health Sciences Research Unit - Nursing (UICISA-E) of the ESEnfC will receive a group of international experts in the area of Brief Interventions: Alcohol and other psychoactive substances (PSs).
Brief Interventions are simple procedures, based on cognitive-behavioral assumptions and oriented towards the patient’s education and motivation to change behaviors. They have a low cost and proved to be effective in the reduction of alcohol consumption and problems related to alcohol and other PSs. There is scientific evidence on the effectiveness of brief interventions in reducing the consumption of alcohol and other psychoactive substances, particularly if they are implemented in primary health care settings.
In Portugal, early detection and brief interventions are recommended in the National Plan for the Reduction of Addictive Behaviors and Other Addictions (SICAD, 2013). However, these are not yet widespread in primary health care settings.

This international meeting of experts includes the organization of 4 Workshops with the participation of several international researchers:

Prof. Dr. J. Paul Seale (Medical Center of Central Georgia & Mercer University School of Medicine - EUA);

Prof. Dra. Débora Finell (Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing - Baltimore, EUA);

Prof. Dra. Christine Savage (Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing - Baltimore, EUA);

Prof. Dr. Erikson F. Furtado (University of Sao Paulo - School of Medicine of Ribeirao Preto - Brasil);

Prof. Dra. Ângela Abreu (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro/Escola Anna Nery - Brasil);
