The Association of Specialist Nurses in Medical-Surgical Nursing and the Scientific Pedagogical Unit of Medical-Surgical Nursing of the Nursing School of Coimbra would like to welcome you to the webpage of the 3rd International Congress on Medical-Surgical Nursing!

The clinical settings are more and more considered as high complexity settings, not only due to the nature of the care being provided, but also due to the technology associated with them. The increasing demands for care and the multiplicity of health care settings have led to the development of new responses to the processes of transition of patients and families throughout their life cycles.

Within a system of high complexity and sometimes unpredictability, the multiprofessional health care team is faced with many challenges in clinical practice, care management, training and research, focusing mainly on the individual and an evidence-based practice.

The main purpose of this event is to allow for the sharing and discussion of knowledge and research in the area of the provision of nursing care to critically ill, chronic and palliative patients, with a view of obtaining health gains.

With a main focus on the transition processes of people in situations of complexity and unpredictability, this congress aims to create a space for debate on practice, management, research and training in the area of medical-surgical nursing.

We tried to gather in our program a set of themes that reflect the main contexts and challenges of care provision in the specified areas, as well as include the contributions of national and international experts so as to explore these themes and promote discussion.

We call for the submission of abstracts for oral and poster presentations to further enrich the sharing of experiences between peers. The abstracts will be published in a supplement of the Journal of Nursing Referência (currently indexed in Cuiden, CINAHL, Latindex, SciELO Portugal and SciELO Citation Index, disseminated internationally on paper and accessible online at Cantarida Index, ESEnfC/Referência, CINAHL).
