ESEnfC team wins the 13th Portuguese Competition Poliempreende

The “ClikTime” project was designed by a team of the Nursing School of Coimbra (ESEnfC) and aims at preventing the occurrence of complications associated with the use of venous catheters. The project was awarded the first prize at the 13th edition of the Portuguese National Competition Poliempreende.

Recently graduated by ESEnfC, nurses Diogo Marques, Gabriella Pimenta, Inês Maximino, Jimmy Martins, Manuela Salvador and Tiago Silva, together with Professors João Graveto, Rosa Melo and Ana Cristina Santos (who is also researcher at the Institute for Biomedical Imaging and Life Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra) have won this competition for business projects aimed at all polytechnic institutes, non-integrated higher education institutions and university polytechnic schools.

According to the developers of the “ClikTime” (peripheral venous catheter with indication of dwell time), this new medical device “will contribute to controlling those factors that influence the occurrence of nosocomial infections” associated with this type of devices, namely errors when controlling their length of contact with the human body.

Thus, according to the winning team of the 13th Poliempreende, the implementation of this innovative user-friendly device “will allow reducing the error rate in clinical practice”

The “ClikTime” project, which is supported by the ESEnfC Entrepreneurship Office, is being developed by a multidisciplinary team which results from multiple partnerships in the areas of research, technical design and prototyping, and industrial property.

In addition to a prize money of 10,000 euros (sponsored by Santander Totta), the winners of the 13th Poliempreende will also benefit from additional support provided by ESEnfC: a six-month period of specialized monitoring by an expert consultant in industrial property, including a national registration of innovation through trademark, utility patent/model, or design.

Among the 19 regional finalists of the Poliempreende (promoted at the local level), the second place went to the Estoril Higher Institute for Tourism and Hotel Studies (project “Be-Cone, primeiro prova-se, depois aprova-se”), and the third place to the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria (project “Sound ParticlesTM”).

The 13th edition of the Portuguese Competition Poliempreende was organized by the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal.
