ESEnfC WHO Collaborating Center attended WHO meeting in Glasgow

The Nursing School of Coimbra (ESEnfC) attended the 11th Biennial Conference of the Global Network of WHO Collaborating Centers for Nursing and Midwifery held in Glasgow, Scotland, between 27th and 29th July 2016, under the theme “Strategic Conversations: The Nursing and Midwifery Contribution towards Global Health 2030”.

At the heart of the debate was the contribution of nurses and midwives to sustainable healthcare and health workforce development.

It is estimated that over 18 million healthcare professionals will be needed, particularly in locations with few resources, to achieve an adequate coverage capable of ensuring a healthy life for everyone until 2030.

Innovation in nursing and midwifery practice towards health for all, the contribution of research and evidence-based practice to healthcare, international approaches to transforming nursing and midwifery education were some of the themes discussed in this conference by the delegates of 34 WHO Collaborating Centers from 28 countries around the world.

The ESEnfC Collaborating Center was represented by Professors Ananda Fernandes (Director), Irma Brito and José Carlos Martins (Executive Committee), as well as Professors Ana Poço, Rosa Moreira and Teresa Silva (Scientific-Pedagogical Unit of Maternal, Obstetric, and Gynecological Health Nursing).

The School was designated by WHO as a Collaborating Center for Nursing Practice and Research in July 2014, for a period of four years, with the following areas of expertise: Simulated practices, Health Literacy, and Nursing Education.
