Five research teachers of the Nursing School of Coimbra are part of the project of European cooperation in the field of innovation and good practices in Health Simulation, SimuCarePro, which is financed by the Erasmus+ programme (Key action 2), supported by the European Commission: José Carlos Martins (coordinator), Isabel Fernandes, Luís Oliveira, Rui Baptista and Verónica Coutinho.
The project entitled “La simulation en santé pour développer un partenariat between apprenants et professionels dans la formation médicale et paramédicale” (“Health Simulation for the development of a partnership between students and professionals in medical and nursing training”) is the result of a consortium of six institutions from four European countries: Belgium (proponent entity), France, Portugal, and Romania.
This is a strategic partnership project that, over the next three years (2015-2018), will allow the organizations to improve their educational and formative offers, reflect on common issues, and share innovative practices.

Health simulation has been around for several years. What is the purpose of this partnership? To improve the simulation being done through an exchange of knowledge? To bring the real closer to the virtual? To standardize practices?
This project is part of Erasmus+ (KA 2) and, as such, it has specific objectives linked to this funding line: it includes the international mobility of teachers, the work in partnership with different disciplines and students, a strong connection to the clinical settings and a focus on the use of the technologies and the improvement of responses, in this case, health gains for the citizens. Thus, this participation helps to boost what each partner already does with what is learned and developed in partnership with the other. And of course, in this way we all improve together.
Belgium, France, Portugal, and Romania. Why these four countries?
To be financed, these projects must include partners from at least four countries. In terms of simulation, the ESEnfC is one of the best nursing schools in Europe as a result of the development that we have achieved at both the pedagogical and the research level. The partner in France is the ILUMENS, a simulation center of reference in France and in Europe, based in the Faculty of Medicine of the Université Paris Descartes. The director of this simulation center is the current president of the Society in European for Simulation (SESAM). The partner in Romania is also a simulation center of the Juliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca. The partners in Belgium include a company dedicated to project management and two nursing schools in Liège (which is the promoter of the project) and Brussels. There is a history of collaboration in previous projects between our school and the schools in Brussels where I was involved (Project Hopital Virtuel and Project Clinipass).
Which of the actions to be developed will take place at the ESEnfC?
One of the monitoring meetings will take place at the School, probably in October 2017.
